In 2012, we replaced the leaking and rotten roof on the Jambiani Primary School building. In 2013 and 2014 with the help of the Saskatchewan Rotary Club we furnished 5 primary classrooms with 4-seater desks so that these young students don’t have to sit on the dirt floor while trying to learn and concentrate on their studies.
The desks were built on the island and transported by a local bus, called a ‘dala-dala’, thus contributing significantly to the local economy.
We also purchased cement and hired the services of a local worker to cement the floors and walls of each of the 5 classrooms. We have since completely furnished 3 more classrooms with 4-seater desks so that all primary students now have a desk to sit in while at school.
